consecrated, I Corinthians 3:16-17 “Know ye not that ye are the temple (naos) of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth (oikeo to occupy a house, reside, inhabit, dwell) in you? If any man defile (phtheiro to pine or waste, shrivel or wither, to spoil, to ruin, deprave, corrupt, defile, destroy) the temple (naos) of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple (naos) of God is holy, which temple (naos) ye are.” I Corinthians 6:19-20 “What? Know ye not that your body (soma) is the temple (naos) of the Holy Spirit (hagios pneuma) which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body (soma), and in your spirit (pneuma), which are God’s” (Also see other passages as II Corinthians 6:14-18)
NOTE: In addition to the above Greek word naos that is defined as dwelling, inner sanctuary, holy of holies, another Greek word for temple is hieron and is defined as an edifice temple, sacred, edifice as in Matthew 21:12 “And Jesus went into the Temple (hieron) of God…” Thus according to the definition of the Greek word naos, the believer’s body becomes the dwelling place, inner sanctuary, Holy of Holies of the Spirit rather than dwelling in a hieron Temple. |
