Greek word study

faith: pistin = to believe, to fully trust in, to have confidence, to have

   assurance, to have reliance, to depend upon, loyal, to have

   conviction, faith means both to believe and to be faithful to the

   belief

faith: pistis = faith, faithfulness, trustworthy, loyal, steadfast, constant,

   staunch, enduring        

proskartenountes = to be faithful, to be devoted and attentive to, to give

   constant attention to, to give unceasing care to, to wait

   steadfastly upon, to persevere

pistois = faithful, trustworthy, reliable, believing, unfailing

amiantos = pure, undefiled, faithful, faultless, unstained, devoted, reliable,

         constant, unswerving, allegiance, unwavering, scrupulous

 

1.   Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith(pistis) is the substance(hupostasis = foundation,

 solid ground, title deed, guarantee) of the of things

 hoped for,(elpizo = to trust, desire, expect with confidence,

 spiritual surety, inward possession) the evidence(elegchos =

 conviction of, proof, certain of reality) things not seen.”

2.   Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith(pistis) it is impossible to please God.”

3.   Romans 14:23 “For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”

4.   Galatians 2:20 “I live by the faith of the Son of God.”

5.   Revelation 2:13 “Thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith.”

6.   Mark 11:22 “Have faith(pistis) in God.”

7.   II Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith,(pistis) not by sight.”

8.   I John 5:4 Faith(pistis) overcometh the world.”

9.   Romans 10:17Faith(pistis) cometh by hearing and hearing by the word

     of God.”

10. Acts 6:5,8Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost.  Stephen, full of faith and power.  

11. Acts 11:24Barnabas, full of the Holy Ghost and of faith:”

BIBLICAL ILLUSTRATIONS OF FAITH:

1.  JESUS

John 5:19-20, 30 “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what He seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.  For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”

John 6:57 “As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.”

John 8:28, 38 “I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.  I speak that which I have seen with my Father.”

John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.”

John 11:41-42 “Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.  And I knew that thou hearest me always.”

John 12:50 “Whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”

John 14:10-12 “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?  The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do: because I go unto my Father.”

John 15:15 “I have called you friends: for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”

John 17:21 “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

John 20:21 “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”

 

2.  ABRAHAM

Genesis 22:1-14 Abraham: “We shall come again unto you. My son, God will provide(Jehovahjireh).”

 

3.  ELISHA

II Kings 6:12-17 Elisha: “They that be with us are more than they that be with them.  Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.  And he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire.”
