“UNITY” IN SCRIPTURE

Greek Word Study:

                                       “one accord” = homothumadon is homos meaning same;

rush along; in unison

    “one mind”=            thumos meaning spirit or mind;  

together, one mind, one accord; the same

mind or spirit; oneness of mind and

heart; to be of one spirit and purpose;

one passion

                                        “one heart” = miakardia with same meaning as above.

                                        “one soul” = psuche with same meaning as above.

                                        “one spirit” = pneuma with same meaning as above.

                                        “together” = toauto meaning together, upon or about

      the same.   

                                         “one” = heis, masculine singular as one person

                                         “one” = hen, neuter singular as unity or oneness

                                         “one” = mia, feminine singular as unity or oneness

                                         “unity” =henotes meaning at one together; unity,

agreement, unanimity

1.   Acts 1:14 “These all(pas) continued(en=persevere toward) with one

    accord(homothumadon) in  prayer(proseuche) and

    supplication(desis).

 

2.   Acts 2:1 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with

  one accord in one place.

 

3.  Acts 2:42 “And they continued steadfastly(to persevere toward)in the

    apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking(klasis) of

    bread(artos=loaf), and in prayers(proseuche=pouring out).

 

4.  Acts 2:44 “And all that believed were together(to auto=upon or about the

         same).

 

5.  Acts 2:46 “And the, continuing(persevere toward) daily(each day) with one

         accord(homethumadon=like minded) in the

         temple(hiaron=sacred edifice) and breaking bread(klasis

         artos=breaking loaf) from house to house(oikon), did eat their

         meat(trophe=nourishment) with gladness(agalliasis=much

              leaping) and singleness of heart(aphelotes=freedom from

         duplicity).

 

6.  Acts 4:24 “And when they heard that, they lifted up(epairo=to lift up, raise

         upon) their voice to God with one accord(mia).

 

7.   Acts 4:32 “And the multitude of them that believed were of one(mia) heart

    and of one(mia( soul.

 

8.   Acts 5:12 “They were all with one accord(homothumadon=like-minded) in

    Solomon’s porch(portico stoa=a standing place; Also see Acts  

    3:11).

 

9.   Acts 8:6 “And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things

  which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he

  did.

 

10.  Romans 15:6 “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God,

           even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

11.  I Corinthians 12:13 “For by one(heis) Spirit(pneuma) are we all

 baptized(baptizo=place or put into) into one(heis)

 body(soma), whether we be Jews or Gentiles,

 whether we be bond(doulos) or free(eleutheros); and

 have been all made to drink(potizo) into one(heis)

 Spirit(pneuma).

12.  II Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brethren, farewell.  Be perfect, be of good

  comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God

  of love and peace shall be with you.

13.  Ephesians 4:3-13

     v3:“Endeavoring(spoudazo=to make speed or haste) to keep(terro=to

  watch, observe)the unity(henotes=oneness) of the Spirit(pneuma) in

  the bond (sundesmos= joint bond)of peace(eirene=concord, peace,

  unity).

 

     v4: “There is one(heis) body(soma), and one(heis) Spirit(pneuma), even

    as ye are called(kaleo) in one(mia) hope(elpis=hope) of your

    calling (klesis= calling);

     v5: “One(heis) Lord(kurios=master, lord), one(heis) faith(pistis=act of

              trust, faith), one(heis) baptism(baptisma=placing or putting into).

 

     v6:  One(heis) God(theos) and Father(pater) of all.

 

     v14: “Till we all come in the unity(henotes=oneness) of the faith(pistis),

                and the knowledge(epignosis=full knowledge)of the Son(huios) of

                God(theos), unto a perfect(teleios=complete, ended) man, unto the

      measure(metron=measure of length or capacity) of the

      stature(helikia=greatness, length) of the fullness(plerma) of

      Christ(Christos):

 

     v15: “From whom(Christ the head)the whole body fitly joined together(to

     adjust perfectly, fit thoroughly)and compacted(sumbibazo=to raise

     up together)by that which every joint(haphe=a joint, fitting together)

     supplieth(epichoregia=to supply), according to(kata=according to)

     the effectual working(energia=inworking)in the measure(of length or

     capacity) of every part(meros=division, part), maketh increase

     (auxesis=increase) of the body(soma=body)unto the

     edifying(oikodome=building up)of itself in love(agape).

 

14.  Philippians 1:27 “Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together

      for the faith of the gospel.

 

15.  Philippinas 2:2 “Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like-minded, having the same

          love, being of one accord, of one mind.

 

16.  Colossians 3:14 “And above all these things put on love(agape), which is

 the bond(sundesmos=joint bond)of perfectness

(teleiotes=completeness).
