UNITY IN CHRIST
According to John 17:1-26

GREEK:  word for “one” heis = masculine as one person

                         hen = neuter as unity, oneness

                        mia = feminine as only one, someone

 

John 17:11 “And now I am no more in the world(cosmos), but these are in the

world(cosmos), and I come to Thee.  Holy(hagios) Father(pater),

keep(tereo) through thine own name(onoma) those whom thou

hast given me, that they may be ONE(heis=present active

subjunctive meaning keep on being), as we are.”

 

John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall

                    believe on me through their word;”

John 17:21 “That they all may be ONE(heis=present active subjunctive

meaning keep on being); as thou, Father(pater), art in me, and I

in thee, that they also may be ONE(heis=present active

subjunctive meaning keep on being) in us: that the world(cosmos)

may believe(pistauo=present active subjunctive meaning

keep on believing)that thou hast sent(apostello) me.”

 

John 17:22 “And the glory(doxa) which thou gavest me I have given them;

that they may be ONE(heis=present active subjunctive meaning

keep on being), even as we are ONE(heis=present active

subjunctive meaning keep on being):”

 

John 17:23 “I in them, and thou in me, that thy may be made perfect(teleioo)

in ONE(heis=present active subjunctive meaning keep on being;

perfected into one; permanent state, as final good or result)and

that the world may know(ginosko=keep on knowing)that thou

hast sent(apostello) me, and hast loved(agapao=timeless aorist)

them, as thou hast loved(agapao=timeless aorist) me.”

1.   Unity and oneness

2.   Harmony

3.   Oneness of will, spirit and love

4.   Shared life

5.   Unity is with the Father through Christ

6.   To live in union

7.   Union

8.   Unity of the Godhead was not physical but spiritual

9.   Unity in diversity & function

10. Unity in “being”

11. Many members with One Body

13. Evidence of regeneration

14. Perfected in one

15. Perfectly united

16. United together by the indwelling Christ

17. One in purpose and Spirit

18. Unity is focused upon the individual’s “oneness” in Christ

19. When the individual is “one” with Christ he will be “one” with the Body of Christ.

20. Oneness in walking, talking, abiding, eating and “breaking break” together.

21. Unity is in JESUS alone

22. Unity is not in doctrine

23. Unity is not in projects

24. Unity is not in goals

25. Unity is not in man

26. Unity is not in human leadership

27. Unity is not in organization

28. Unity is not in structure
