Sabbath= Hebrew shabath meaning to cease, rest

                 Greek sabbata/sabbaton meaning to rest

1.     Genesis 2:1-3 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

2.     Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

3.     Matthew 12:8 “The Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.”

4.     Matthew 28:1 “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week…”

5.     Mark 2:27 “Jesus said unto them, the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.”

6.     Mark 3:4(Luke 6:1-11)“Jesus saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil?  To save life, or to kill?”

7.     Luke 4:16 “And Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”

8.     Luke 13:10-17 “There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day…Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?  And ought not his woman, being a daughter of Abraham , whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath?

9.     Luke 23:56 “And the women returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.”

10. John 5:16-19 “Jesus had done these things on the sabbath day.  But Jesus answered them, my Father worketh hitherto, and I work.  The Son of man can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”

11. John 7:23-24 “If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcison, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?  Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

12. Acts 15:21 “For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagues every sabbath day.”

13. Acts 18:4 “And Paul reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.”

14. Romans 14:5-6 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth everyday, alike.  Let everyman be fully persuaded in his own mind.  He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he dot not regard it.”

15. Colossians 2:16 “Let no man therefore judge you to meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

16. Hebrews 4:3-5 “For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.  For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.  And in his place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
