INTIMACY WITH GOD

OLD TESTAMENT EXAMPLES:

1.      Man Created in God’s Image- Genesis 1:26-27 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

2.      Adam and Eve- Genesis 3:8-9 “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.  And the Lord God, called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”

3.      Enoch- Genesis 5:21-24 “And Enoch walked with God…And Enoch walked with God: and he was not ; for God took him.”

4.      Noah- Hebrews 11:7By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”

5.      Abraham- II Chronicles 20:7 “Art thou not our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend(ahab=to love) forever?”  Isaiah 41:8Abraham my friend(ahab=to love).”

Hebrews 11: 8, 17-19By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.  By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed by called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.” James 2:23 Abraham was called the Friend(philos=friend) of God.”

6.      Moses- Exodus 33:11 “And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend(rea=friend).”  Hebrews 11:23-29By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the sons of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: By faith he forsook Egypt…By faith he kept the Passover …By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land:”

7.      Job- Job 1:1, 8 “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.  And the Lord said unto Satan, Has thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?””

8.      Job 10:12 “Thou God hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

9.      David- Acts 13:22David, to whom God gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.”

10.  Elijah- II Kings 2:11 “And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”

11.  Isaiah- Isaiah 6:1-8I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his trained filled the temple…Then said I, Woe is me!…Whom shall I send and who will go for us?  Then said I, Here am I; send me.  And God said, God, and tell this people…”

12.  Daniel- Daniel 10:12, 19 “And the angel said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved…And he said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, ye, be strong.  And when had had spoken unto me, I was stengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.”

NEW TESTAMENT EXAMPLES:

1.      John- John 21:20 “Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper.”

2.      Simeon- Luke 2:25-35 “And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.  And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.  And he came by the Spirit into the temple…”

3.      Anna- Luke 2:36-38 “And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and praying night and day.  And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”

4.      Lazarus- John 11:5, 36 “Now Jesus loved Lazarus…Behold how he loved him.”  John 11:11 “Our friend(philos=friend) Lazarus.”

5.      Mary(Lazarus’ Sister)- John 11:2, 5; 12:3  “It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair…Now Jesus loved MaryMary fell at his feet.Luke 10:39Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.”

6.      Martha- John 11:5 “Now Jesus loved Martha…She said unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of god, which should come into the world.”

7.      Mary (The Mother of Jesus)- Luke 1:-27-28, 38, 46-49 “The virgin’s name was Mary.  And the angel Gabriel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.  And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.  And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.  For he that is mighty hath done great things; and holy is his name.”

8.      Mary Magdalene- Luke 8: 2Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils.”  John 20:1, 11, 16-18 “The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre.  Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: Jesus saith unto her, Mary, She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my

9.      Father, and to my God and your God.  Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.”

10.  Two on Emmaus Road- Luke 24: 13-35 “And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus.  They talked togetherthey communed together and reason.  Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.  He made as though he would have gone further.  But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.  And he went in to tarry with them.  And it came to pass that as he sat at meat with them, he took bread and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.  And their eyes were opened, and they knew him:  And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, whiled he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?  And they arose the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, saying, the Lord is risen in deed and they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.”

11.  Peter- John 21:14-17 “This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.  So when he had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?  He saith unto him, Yea Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.  He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.  He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?  He saith unto him, Yea Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.  He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?  Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me?  And he said unto him, Lord thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee.  Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

12.  Stephen- Acts 6:3, 5, 8Stephen was of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom.  Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost.  And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.”

13.  Philip- Acts 6:3Philip was of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom.  Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.  And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.  For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.”

14.  Paul- Acts 9:3-6, 15-18 “And as Saul journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:  And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?  And he said, Who art thou, Lord?  And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.  And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?  Saul is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my names’ sake.  Ananias entered into the house; and putting his hands on Saul said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.  And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.”
