N.T. WARNINGS ABOUT FALSE DOCTRINES

1.      Matthew 7:15-20 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth evil fruit.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

2.      Matthew 24:11” And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”

3.      Mark 13:22-23 “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.  But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.”

4.      II Peter 2:1-2 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves a swift destruction.  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”

5.      I John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  Hereby knew ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

6.      Revelation 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and       brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

EXAMPLES OF FALSE DOCTRINES IN N.T. TIMES:

1.   Judaizers = Circumcision Party; works/salvation; law & circumcision

                         1.  Acts 15:1 “Except ye be circumcised, ye cannot be saved.”

2.     Gnostics = Grk. Gnosis meaning knowledge; superior knowledge; one who knows;

                         especially in regard to creation of the world and existence of evil.

1.   Romans 11:33-36 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and

 knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are his judgements, and his ways

 past fining out!  For who hath know the mind of the Lord?  Or who hath

been his counselor?  Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be

 recompensed unto him again?  For of him, and through him, and to him, are

 all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen”

2.     Col. 1:9-10 “W e do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might 

be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual

 understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing,

 being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

3.     Col. 2:2-3 “That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in

love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the

 acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

3.     Nicolaitanes = Grk. Nikao  meaning to conquer

                                        Laos meaning people at large or assembled; laity

                                        Those who would rise above and subdue the common people(laity).

                        1.    Jude and I John written to combat this false teaching

                        2.    Rev. 2:6, 14-15 “But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the

    Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

4.     Doctrine of Balaam = Occult, Spiritism

                        1.  Rev. 2:14 “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast

        there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to

        cast a stumbling-block before the children of Israel, to eat things

        sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

5.     Jezebel Spirit = False teachings; false prophet/tess; seduction; deception; immorality;  control, wickedness

                        1.   Jude 11 “Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and

                                  ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the

          gainsaying of Core.”

2.   Rev. 2:20 “Not withstanding I have a few things against thee, because

          thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess,

          to teach and seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat

          things sacrificed unto idols.”
