EXHORT/EXHORTATION STUDY

Greek: parakaleo meaning to exhort; call near; to call for; to call to one’s side; to appeal; to ask; to exhort; to beseech; to beg; to urge; to request, to summon.

1.   Acts 2:40 “And with many other words did he(Peter)testify and exhort,     saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.”

2.   Acts 11 :23 “Who, when he(Barnabas)came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.”

3.   Acts 14:22 “(Paul and Barnabas)Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”

4.   Acts 15:32 “And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.”

5.   Acts 20:2 “And when he(Paul)hod gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece.”

6.   Romans 12:8 “Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation:”

7.   I Corinthians 14:3 “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”

8.   II Corinthians 8:17 “For indeed he(Titus)accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.”

9.   II Corinthians 9:5 “Therefore I(Paul)thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.”

10. I Thessalonians 2:3-4 “For our(Paul)exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.”

11. I Thessalonians 2:11-12 “As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, that ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”

12. I Thessalonians 4:1 “Furthermore then we(Paul)beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as y have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please  God, so ye would abound more and more.”

13. I Thessalonians 5:14 “Now we(Paul) exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”

14. II Thessalonians “Now them that are such we(Paul)command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.”

15. I Timothy 2:1 “I(Paul)exhort therefore, that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, he made for all men;”

16. I Timothy 4:13 “Till I(Paul)come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”

17. I Timothy 6:2-3 “These things teach and exhort.  If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;”

18. II Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.”

19. Titus 1:9 “Holding fast the faithful word as he(a bishop) hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”

20. Titus 2:6 “Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.”

21. Titus 2:15 “These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority Let no man despise thee.”

22. Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort on another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”

23. Hebrews 12:5 “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh not you as unto children.  My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”

24. Hebrews 13:22 “And I(Paul)beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.”

25. I Peter 5:1-2 “The elders which are among you I(Peter)exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed; Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;”

26. I Peter 5:12 “By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I(Peter)suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.”

27. Jude 3 “Beloved, when I(Paul)gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith, which was once delivered unto the saints.”
