MUSIC AND WORSHIP IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Key passages in understanding the balance of the kind of music that should be expressed in worship is found in Ephesians 5:8, “Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs making melody in your heart to the Lord;” and Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”  Thus all three types of music including psalms, hymns and spiritual songs are valid biblical ways of expressing worship.
