Holy Spirit’s Forbidding and Satan’s Hindrances

 

Believers must be able to determine if something is of the Lord (“Holy Spirit Forbidding” and “Suffering Not”) or if it is of Satan (“Satan’s Hindrances” and “Buffeting”) in their daily spiritual walk whether at home or on mission journeys abroad.

Thus we must learn from Scripture the following:

Acts 16:16-24 (Damsel):

Acts 16:25-39  (Jailer):

v25 “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed (mesonuktion midnight, as a watch; proseuchomai to pray to God, supplicate, worship, make prayer), and sang praises unto God (humneo to hymn, sing a religious ode, celebrate God in song, sing an hymn, praise unto; theos deity, the supreme Divinity, by Hebraism very God): and the prisoners heard them (desmios captives, in bonds, prisoners; epakroaomai to listen intently, to hear).

v28 But Paul cried with a loud voice (phoneo  a sound, call, crow, cry; megas big, exceedingly great, loud, mighty; phone tone, noise, sound, voice), saying, Do thyself no harm (lego call, speak, utter, put forth; kakos injury, harm), for we are all here (hapas absolutely all, everyone, whole; enthade within, here, hither). 

v29 Then he called for a light (aiteo to ask, beg, call for, require; phos to shine, rays, fire, light), and sprang in (eispedao to leap, to rush in, run in, spring in), and came trembling (entromos terrified, quake, trembled), and fell down before (prospipto to fall towards, prostrate oneself, rush upon, fall down at or before) Paul and Silas,

v31 And they said (laleo to talk, utter words, say, speak, utter; logos reason, talk, speech, tiding, treatise utterance, word), Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (pisteuo  to have faith in, upon, a person, entrust, especially one’s spiritual wellbeing to Christ, believe, commit to, put in trust with; pas all, any, every, the whole, every, thoroughly, whatsoever, whole; kurios supremacy, supreme in authority, controller, God, Lord, Master; Iesous Jesus, Jehoshua; Christos anointed, Messiah), and thou shalt be saved (sozo to save, deliver, protect, healed, preserved, make whole), and thy house (oikia family, home, household). 

v32 And they spake unto him (laleo to talk, utter words, say, speak talk, preach) the word of the Lord (logos teaching, preaching, reasoning, tidings, utterance; kurios supreme in authorithy, controller, God, Lord, Master), and to all that were in his house (pas all, any, every, the whole, everyone, whosoever; oikia residence, abode, family, household, home). 

v33 And he took them (paralambano to receive near, associate with oneself in familiar, intimate, relation, take unto) the same hour of the night (ekeinos that one, selfsame; hora hour, instant; nux night, midnight), and washed their stripes (louo to bathe, the whole person; plege a stroke, wound, stripe); and was baptized (baptizo to make whelmed, that is, fully wet, wash), he and all his, straightway (pas all, any, every, the whole, whosoever; parachrema instantly, forthwith, immediately, straightway, soon).

Examples on Our Mission Journeys of “Holy Spirit Forbidding” and “Suffering Us Not”:

At the last moment a caution to abandon our mission to an island of the Philippines, called Mindanao, which is a Muslim dominated territory.

China mission to Beijing diverted to Hennan underground gathering of 90 Chinese Christian leaders of whom 45 were from house churches and 45 from the government churches.

Northeastern China escape to safety from Training Center.

Sudden impression to go uninvited on mission to a training gathering of approximately 30 servant leaders in Manila.

Go on mission to Manila to train six key servant leaders.

Led to invite Eman to join our mission to Indonesia.

Mission to Indonesia where we were invited to train Pentecostal Holiness Denominational minister to know how to biblically prepare for persecution.

Led to Hong Kong to train Victor from Pakistan.

 

SATAN’S HINDRANCES

 

I Thessalonians 2:17-18 :

v22 For which cause (dio through which thing, consequently, for which cuse, therefore, wherefore) also I have been much hindered (polus polos much, many often, abundant, great, much many, often, plenteous, sore; egkopto to cut into, impede, detain, hinder, be tedious unto) from coming to you (erchomai to come or go, accompany, appear, come enter, go, pass, resort, next). 

v23 But now (nuni just now, now) having no more place to these parts (meketi no further, any longer, not hencefore, herafter, no longer, not anymore; topos a spot, locality, location, place; klima a slope, tract of country, part, region), and having a great desire (epipothia intense longing, great desire) these many years (polus polos many, often, abundant, oft times, sore, straitly; etos a year, year) to come unto you (erchomai to come or go, accompany, appear, come enter, go, pass, resort):

v24 When so ever (hos which how, that is, in that manner, about, after that, when so ever, with all speed) I take my journey into Spain (ean in case that, provided, denotes indefiniteness or uncertainty; poreuomai to traverse, travel, depart, go forth, take a journey, walk; Spania Spain), I will come to you (erchomai to come, accompany, appear, bring, come enter, go, next pass, resort, be set): for I trust to see you in my journey (elpizo to expect or confide, hope, trust; theaomi to look closely at, to perceive, to visit, behold, look upon; disporeuomai to travel through, go through, journey in, pass by), and to be brought on my way thitherward by you (propempo to send forward, escort, aid in travel, accompany, bring forward on journey, way, conduct forth; ekei there, thither, yonder place), if first I be somewhat filled with your company (proton firstly, in time, place, order or importance, at the beginning, chiefly, first of all; apo away from something near, separation, departure, completion; meros section, allotment, share, behalf, portion; empiplemi empletho to fill up, to satisfy, fill; humon concerning you). 

v25 But now I go unto Jerusalem (nuni just now, now; poreuomai  to travel, to remove, depart, go forth, on one’s way, take a journey, walk; Hierousalem Jerusalem, capital of Palestine) to minister unto the saints (diakoneo to be an attendant, wait upon, as a host, friend or teacher, to minister unto, serve; hagios holy ones, saint, blameless in Christ).

v26 For it hath pleased (eudokeo to think well, approve, think good, be willing, have pleasure) them of Macedonia (Makedonia Macedonia, a region in Greece) and Achaia (Achaia  Achaia, Greece) to make a certain contribution (poieo to make or do, bring forth, fulfill; tis some or any person, whomsoever; koinonia partnership, participation, benefaction, communicate, distribution, fellowship) for the poor saints (ptochos  a beggar, pauper, distressed, poor; hagios  sacred, pure, consecrated, holy, saint) which are at Jerusalem (Hierousalem Jerusalem, capital of Palestine).

v27 It hath pleased them verily (eudokeo to think well of, approve, think good, be well pleased, take pleasure, be willing; gar verily, therefore, for indeed); and their debtors they are (epheiletes ower, a person indebted, a delinquent, transgressor against God, debtor, which owed, sinner). For if the Gentiles (ethnos a race, a tribe, a foreign non-Jewish one, pagan, Gentile, heathen, nation, people) have been made partakers (koinoneo to share with others, communicate, distribute, be partaker) of their spiritual things (pneumatikos non-carnal, supernatural, spiritual), their duty (opheilo opheileo to woe, under obligation, ought, bound, debt, indebted, owe)  is also to minister (leitourgeo a public servant, to perform charitable or religious functions, worship, minister) unto them in carnal things (sarkikos pertaining to flesh, bodily, temporal, carnal, fleshly).

v28 When therefore I have performed this (epiteleo to fulfill further, completely, execute, undergo, accomplish, finish, perform), and have sealed to them this fruit (sphragizo to stamp, with a signet, privte mark, for security or preservation, attest, seal up, set a seal; karpos fruit, as plucked), I will come by you into Spain (aperchomai depart; Spania  Spain).

v29 And I am sure that (eido to know, be aware, have known, perceive, understand), when I come unto you (erchomai to come, appear, pass, resort), I shall come in the fullness (pleroma completion, what fills, what is filled, as container, performance, period, to fill up, fulfilling, fullness, full) of the blessing of the gospel of Christ (eulogia commendation, adoration, benediction, benefit, blessing, bounty; euaggelion a good message, good news, that the gospel; Christos anointed, the Messiah, Jesus Christ).”

v30 Now I beseech you (parakaleo to call near, invite, invoke, implore, beseech, call for, comfort, desire, exhort, entreat, pray), brethren (adelphos the womb, a brother), for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake (kurios supreme authority, controller, Lord, God, Master; Iesous Jesus; Christos anointed, Messiah), and for the love of the Spirit (dia  the channel of an act, for the sake; agape affection, benevolence, dear, charity, love; pneuma breath, spirit, Christ’s spirit, Holy Spirit), that ye strive together with me (sunagonizomai to stuggle in company with, to be partner, assistant, strive together with) in your prayers to God for me (proseuche prayer, worship, pray earnestly; theos deity, the supreme Divinity, by Hebraism very God);

v31 That I may be delivered (rhuomai to rush, rescue, deliver) from them that do not believe in Judaea (apeitheo not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving; Ioudaia Judea, a region of Palestine); and that my service (diakonia as a servant, aid, service, minister, relief, serving)  which I have for Jerusalem (Hierousalem Jerusalem, capital of Palestine) may be accepted of the saints (euprosdektos well received, approved, favorable, acceptable; hagios  sacred, pure, blameless, consecrated holy, saint);

v32 That I may come unto you (erchomai  to come, accompany, come enter, pass, resort) with joy (chara cheerfulness, delight, gladness, joy, fulness) by the will of God (thelmaa determination, choice, purpose, desire, pleasure, will; theos deity, the supreme Divinity, by Hebraism very God ), and may with you (humin to with or by you) be refreshed (sunanapauomai to recruit oneself in company with, refresh with).

v33 Now (de now) the God of peace (theos a diety, the supreme Divinity, by Hebraism very God; eirene peace, prosperity, quietness, rest) be with (meta amid, among, on, setting, together with) you all (humon from or concerning you; pas all, any, every, the whole, everyone, as many as, whosoever).  Amen amen firm, trustworthy, surely, so be it, amen, verily.”

And only God knows what is before us, thus we claim His grace and power to walk victoriously in Him for His glory! “I can do all things (ischuo to have force, be able, avail, can do, be of strength, be whole, much work) through Christ (pas all, any, every, the whole, always as many as, thoroughly; en fixed position; Christos anointed, the Messiah, Jesus Christ) who strengthens me (endunamoo to empower, enable, increase in strength, be, make strong).” (Philippians 4:13)

II Corinthians 12:7-10 

v7 “And lest (hina me in order, lest, that in no thing) I should be exalted above measure (hperairomai to raise oneself over, to become haughty, exalt self, be exalted above measure) through the abundance of the revelations (apokalupsis disclosure, appearing, manifestation, be revealed, revelation), there was given to me (didomi to give, bestow, deliver, grant, receive) a thorn in the flesh (skolops withered at the front, a point or prickle, a bodily annoyance, disability, thorn; sarx flesh, as stripped of the skin, the body, human nature, with its frailties, a human being), the messenger of Satan to buffet me (aggelos messenger, an “angel”; Satan Satan, that is the devil; kolaphizo to rap with the fist, buffet; kolazo to curtail, to chastise, reserve for infliction, punish), lest I should be exalted above measure (Same a above). 

v8 For this thing (toutou concerning this) I besought (parakaleo to call near, invite, invoke, implore, beseech, call for, comfort, desire, exhort entreat, pray) the Lord (kurios supreme in authority, controller, God, Lord, Master) thrice (tris three times, thrice), that it might depart from me (aphistemi  to remove, depart, refrain, withdraw). 

v9 And he said unto me, My grace (charis favor, benefit, gift, grace, joy liberality, pleasure, thank worthy) is sufficient for thee (arkeo be content, be enough, suffice, be sufficient): for my strength (dunamis force, miraculous power, ability, abundance, strength) is made perfect (teleioo to complete, accomplish, consummate, consecrate, finish, fulfil, make perfect) in weakness (astheneia feebleness of body, malady, frailty, disease, infirmity, sickness, weakness).  Most gladly therefore (hedista with great pleasure, most, very gladly) will I rather glory (oun certainly, accordingly; mallon in a greater degree, or rather, more and more, much the more) in my infirmities (astheneia feebleness of body, malady, frailty, disease, infirmity, sickness, weakness; kauchaomai to boast, to vaunt in good sense, glory, joy, rejoice), that the power (dunamis miraculous power, ability, abundance, might, miracle, strength, mighty wonderful work) of Christ may rest upon me (Christos anointed, Messiah, Jesus Christ; episkenoo to tent upon, abide with, rest upon). 

v10 Therefore (dio through which thing, consequently, for which cause, therefore, wherefore) I take pleasure (eudokeo to think well of, approve, think good, be well pleased, take pleasure, be willing) in infirmities (astheneia feebleness of body, malady, frailty, disease, infirmity, sickness, weakness), in reproaches (hubris insolence, over bearing, insult, injury, harm, hurt, reproach), in necessities (anagke constraint, distress, needs, of necessity, needful), in persecutions (diogmos persecution), in distresses (stenochoria narrowness of room, calamity, anguish, distress) for Christ’s sake (huper that is, of place, above, beyond, for the sake of, instead, regarding; Christos anointed, Messiah, Jesus Christ; hotan whenever, inasmuch, as long as, till): for when I am weak (astheneo to be feeble, diseased, impotent, sick), then am I strong (dunatos powerful, capable, able, mighty, power, strong).”

I Corinthians 4:9-16; 11:1

v9 “For I think (dokeo to think, to seem, be accounted, be or reputation, suppose) that God (theos deity, supreme Divinity, by Hebraism very God) hath set forth (apodeiknumi to show off, exhibit, to demonstrate, accredit, prove, set forth, show) us the apostles (apostolos messenger, one that is sent, ambassador, sent forth one, apostle)  last (eschatos farthest, final of place or time, ends of, last, latter end, lowest, uttermost), as it were appointed to death (hos which how, that is, in that manner; epithanatios doomed to death, appointed to death): for we are made a spectacle (ginomai to cause to be, to become, to be brought to pass, be fulfilled, be wrought; theatron a place for public show, theatre, audience room, a show itself, spectacle) unto the world (kosmos orderly arrangement, the world including its inhabitants), and to angels (aggelos messenger, an angel), and to men (anthropos  a human being, certain, man). 

v10 We are fools (moros dull, stupid, as if shut up, heedless, blockhead, absurd, fool, foolish) for Christ’s sake (Christos anointed, Messiah, Jesus Christ), but ye are wise in Christ (phronimos discreet, practical skill, acumen, intelligence, mental acquirement; Christos same as above); we are weak (asthenes strengthless, feeble, impotent, sick, without strength, weak, weakness), but ye are strong (ischuros forcible, boisterous, mighty, powerful, strong, valiant); ye are honorable (endoxos in glory, splendid, noble, glorious, gorgeous, honorable), but we are despised (atimos un-honored, dishonored, less honorable, despised, without honor, less honorable). 

v11 Even unto this present hour (achri achris of time, until, up to, as far as, for till even until, while; arti through the idea of suspension, just now, this day, hour, henceforth, hither, even now, this present; hora an hour, instant, season, time) we both hunger (kai also, even, so, both, even, moreover, therefore; peinao crave, to be an hungered, pine), and thirst (dipsao to thirst, be thirsty), and are naked (gumneteuo to strip, go poorly clad, be naked), and are buffeted (kolaphizo to rap, hit with the fist, buffet, blow), and have no certain dwelling place (astateo to be non stationary, homeless, have no certain dwelling-place);

v12 And labor (kopiao to feel fatigue, to work hard, bestow labor, toil, be wearied), working with our own hands (ergazomai to toil, as a task, occupation, effect, be engaged in or with, commit, labor for , minister bout, trade, work; idios to self, one’s own, private or separate, alone, apart, aside, own business, home, private, proper; cheir the hand, a means or instrument, hand, grasping): being reviled (loidoreo reproach, vilify, revile), we bless (eulogeo to speak well of, to bless, thank, invoke blessing upon, bless, praise, prosper); being persecuted (dioko to flee, to pursue, to persecute, ensue, follow after, suffer, persecute, press toward), we suffer it (anechomai  to hold oneself up against, put up with, bear with, endure, forbear, suffer):

v13 “Being defamed (blasphemeo vilify, to speak impiously, speak blaspheme, defame, rail on, revile, speak evil), we entreat (parakaleo to call near, invite, invoke, beseech, call for, be of good comfort, desire, give, exhort, entreat, pray): we are made as the filth of the world (ginomai to cause to be, to become, be brought to pass, ordained to be, partake, require; perikatharma refuse, filth; kosmos orderly arrangement, world, including its inhabitants), and are the off scouring (peripsoma to rub, brushed all around, off scrapings, scum, off scouring) of all things unto this day (pas the whole, all, every, all manner of, means, as many as, whatsoever, whole; arti idea of suspension, just now, this day, hence forth, hither, even now, this present). 

v14 I write not (grapho grave, to write, to describe) these things to shame you (entrepo confound, shame), but as my beloved sons (mou  of me, mine own, my; agapetos beloved, dearly, beloved, dear; teknon a child, daughter, son) I warn you (noutheteo to put in mind, to caution, or reprove gently, admonish, warn). 

v15 For though ye have ten thousand (muroi very many, ten thousand, innumerably, many; instructors (paidagogos a boy leader, servant whose office it was to take the children to school, tutor, instructor, schoolmaster; in Christ ((Christos anointed, Messiah, Jesus Christ)), yet have ye not many fathers (pater father, parent):for in Christ Jesus I have begotten (gennao procreate, of the father, beget, bring forth) you through the gospel (euaggelion a good message, good news, gospel). 

v16 Wherefore I beseech you (oun certainly, accordingly, truly, now, therefore, wherefore; parakaleo to call near, invite, invioke, implore, beseech, call for, comfort, desire, give exhortation, entreat, pray), be ye followers of me (mimetes  imitator, follower).
