PROPHECIES OF JESUS’ DEATH
AND RESURRECTION

OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY:

Genesis 3:15 “I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed, it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel.”(Hebrews 2:14)

Exodus 12:1-28 (The Passover was a prophetic event that was fulfilled in Jesus’ sacrificial blood sacrifice as the Messiah.)

Leviticus 8-9 (Jesus was the fulfillment of the Levitical system of blood sacrifice.)

Job 19:25-26 “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”

Psalm 16:8-11 “I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.  Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.  For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”

Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Psalm 22:7-8 “And all that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.”

Psalm 22:13, 14, 16, 17, 18 “They gaped upon me with their mouths as a ravening and roaring lion.  I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.  My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: They pierced my hands and my feet.  They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vestures.”

Psalm 22:31 “They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.”

Psalm 34:20 “He keepeth all His bones, not one of them is broken.”

Psalm 40:6 “Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.”

Psalm 69:21 “They gave me also gall for my meat, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”

Psalms 109:25 “I became also a reproach unto them, when they looked upon me they shake their heads.”

Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.”

Isaiah 52:13-53:12 “Many were astonished at thee, his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men.”

Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected of man; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

Isaiah 53:4 “Surely he hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth, he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before his shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”

Isaiah 53:8 “He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation?  For he was cutoff out of the land of the living: For the transgression of my people (Israel) was He stricken.”

Isaiah 53:9 “And He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.”

Isaiah 53:10-12 “Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.  He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors and bare the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.”

Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced…”

GOSPEL PROPHECIES:

Matthew 12:40 “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whales belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Matthew 16:4 “Jesus began to show unto His disciples how that He must go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and the chief priests and scribes and be killed.”

Matthew 17:22-23 “The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men.  They shall kill him.”

Matthew 20:18-19 “We go up to Jerusalem and the Son of Man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and scribes and they shall condemn Him to death.  And He shall be delivered to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify Him.”

Matthew 26:2 “The Son of Man is betrayed to be crucified.”

Matthew 26:45 “Then cometh Jesus to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”

Matthew 27:34 “And they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.”

Matthew 27:39-44 “And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself.  If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.  Likewise also the chief priest mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.  If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.  He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.”

Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?  That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Mark 15:23 “And they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.”

Mark 15:27 “And with Him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand and the other on his left.  And the Scripture was fulfilled, which saith, and He was numbered with the transgressors.”

Mark 15:43-46 “Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counselor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marveled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.  And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.  And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher.”

Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.  And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

Luke 24:26-27 “Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?  And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, Jesus expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

Luke 24:46 “Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:”

John 10:17-18 “I lay down my life that I might take it up again.  No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself.”

John 19:23-24 “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.  They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots.  These things therefore the soldiers did.”

John 19:29-32 “Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?  They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.  Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law.  The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.”

John 19:36 “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”

ACTS PROPHECIES

Acts 2:24 “Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.”

Acts 2:25-36 “For David speaketh concerning Him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad: moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: because thou will not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.  Thou has made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.  Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day.  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne: He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.  For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thy foes thy footstool.  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
