OTHER GIFTS

 

1.      Celibacy- unmarried agamos=unwedded

a.       I Corinthians 7:7: “For I would that all men were even as I myself.  But every man hath his proper gift (charisma) of God, one after this manner, and another after that.  I say therefore to the unmarried (agamos=unwedded) and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.  But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.”

2.      Martyrdom- martyr=a witness unto death

a.       I Corinthians 13:2-3 “Though I have the gift (charisma)…and I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.”

3.      Hospitality- philoxenia=love of strangers

xenizo=to receive strangers, to be a host, entertain

a.       Romans 12:13 “Given to hospitality (philoxenia).”

b.      I Timothy 3:2 “A bishop then must be blameless, given to hospitality ((philoxenos).”

c.       Titus 1:8 “For a bishop must be a lover of hospitality (philoxenos).”

d.      Hebrews 13:1-2 “Let brotherly love continue.  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained (xenizo) angels unawares.”

e.       I Peter 4:9 Use hospitality (philoxenos) one to another without grudging.”
