HEALING THE SICK

Greek Definitions:         sunecho=seized by illness

                                                kakos=grievously diseased

                                                puresso=to be on fire, sick of fever

                                                paralutikos=paralyzed, palsy, paralytic

                                                astheneo=to be weak, feeble, nor strength,

       diseased, impotent, frailty

                                                arrhostos=feeble, sickly, not strong

                                                asthenes=without strength, feebly, weak, bodily

      debility

                                                kamno=to be weary of mind, faint, tired

Principles Guidelines:

1.          God’s ultimate will is that we be well and whole, for God never intended in His perfect will that there be sickness and death.

2.          Disease and sickness is a result of our sin nature and goes directly back to the experience of the fall of man.

3.          Much of the sickness we experience comes as a result of the personal abuse or misuse of our bodies.

4.          The Bible teaches that man’s days are few and numbered thus we cannot expect to live forever in these present tabernacle bodies.

5.          As long as we do live in these natural bodies, we can claim in faith prayer for healing and wholeness in Jesus’ Name.

6.          The primary purpose of our desire for healing should be to glorify Jesus and to be used by Him in ministry and witness.

7.          Remember also II Corinthians 4:16 “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”  II Corinthians 5:1 “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heaven.”

Types of Sickness:

     Sickness Unto Healing-

1.          Matthew 8:3 “Leper cleansed.”

2.          Matthew 8:6 “Centurion’s servant healed.”

3.          Matthew 8:14 “Peter’s wife’s mother healed.”

4.          Matthew 8:16 “Jesus healed all that were sick.”

5.          Matthew 6:5 “Because of unbelief, Jesus healed on a few sick.”          

6.          Matthew 6:13 “Disciples anointed with oil many that were sick.”

7.          Acts 5:15 “Healed everyone.”

8.          Philippians 2:26 “Epaphroditus sick…God healed.”

9.          James 5:15 “Prayer of faith…save the sick.”

      Some Causes of Sickness and Death:

1.          The fall of man- Genesis 3:3 “Lest ye die.”

2.          Sin and unbelief – Numbers 12:11 “Miriam was leprous.” Psalm 119:67 “Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now have I kept thy word.” James 5:15 “The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

3.          The work of Satan- Job 1 “Job and Satan.” Luke 13:11-13 “Spirit of infirmity.” II Corinthians 12:7- “Messenger of Satan to buffet me,”

4.          Sowing and reaping principle- Galatians 6:7-8 “For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

Gifts of Healing

Definitions: gifts=charismas (plural) i.e. Gifts of miracle faith and

                             healing.

                   healings=iamaton meaning miracles of bodily healings; gift of

                   restoring health; supernatural cures of sickness; cure

                   diseases; to be made whole.  (Plural) The plural can indicate

                   different kinds of healings such as spiritual, emotional,

                   physical, immediate, progressive, medicinal.

1.             Matthew 8:16-17 “Jesus healed all that were sick, that it might be fulfilled, He took our infirmities and bore our sickness.” Isaiah 53:4-5

Some Methods of Ministering Healings:

1.          Receive God’s Word- Psalms 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them.”

2.          Think God’s Word- Philippians 4:8 “Think on these things.”

3.          Confess God’s Word- Psalms 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in They sight.”

4.          Obey God’s Word- I John 3:22 “Keep His commandments.”

5.          Anoint with oil- James 5:14 “Pray over the sick anointing with oil in the name of the Lord.”

6.          Lay on hands- Mark 16:18 “Lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.”

7.          Pray in faith- James 5:15-16 “Prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.  Pray one for another, that ye may be healed.”

8.          Speak to the sickness- Luke 4:39 “Jesus rebuked the fever.”

9.          Speak to the demon- Mark 9:25 “Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him and enter no more into him.”

10.      Speak to the person- Luke 5:24 “Arise, take up thy couch and go.”
