Greek Definition

                                    poimen means one who shepherds, tends, leads

   to pasture and water; provides, protects,

   cares for, strengthens, heals, binds up wounds

                                    presbuteros means an aged person, spiritual maturity,

   maturity in spiritual experience, denoting

   wisdom

                                    episkopos means overseer, one who gives oversight, to

    superintend

Application- One who oversees and cares for the spiritual needs of “called out ones”, the ekklesia.  Thus one who equips the saints for work of the ministry in overseeing and caring for one another.

PASTORS (poimen)

1.            Acts 20:17-18, 28 “Paul sent to Ephesus and called the elders (presbuteros) of the church.  And when they were come to him, he said unto them…Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers (episkopos), to feed (poimen) the church of God, which he hath purchased with is own blood.”

2.            Ephesians 4:7-8 “But unto everyone is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.  Wherefore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men…And he gave some, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors (poimen) and teachers.  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…”
