PRACTICAL
PROCEDURES FOR APOSTOLIC WORKERS
1.
PROBLEM: How to administer Apostolic Funds
-
PRINCIPLE:
-
Dan- Paul ministered to the needs of
his traveling companions according to Acts 20:34 “Ye yourselves know, that
these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were
with me.”
Art- The apostolic team leader
is responsible for meeting the unmet financial needs of the team. Each team
member should be providing whatever level of financial support available to
them with the leader completing any shortfall. This insures the leaders
active faith in believing God for direction and provision.
-
Dan- Those who labor in the word and
doctrine should receive double honor according to I Timothy 5:17-18 “Let
the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially
they who labor in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou
shalt not muzzle the ox that treadest out the corn. And, The laborer is
worthy of his reward.”
Art- Financial compensation in
general should be in proportion to the amount of work done by individual team
members as it relates to the purpose of the team, i.e., teaching, training,
etc.
-
Art- In regard to dividing the funds
among the apostle workers, the teams should manifest the love and care for
one another that is required by the Lord. Each should esteem the others
and be concerned for their needs and lay aside any rights to financial
rewards and, in stead, provide for a team member who has needs regardless
of the amount of work done.
-
Art- On occasion, the team may need
to give alms out of the common purse, as did the Twelve while traveling
with Jesus.
-
APPLICATION:
-
Dan- An apostle servant can be a tent
maker and use these funds and other funds made available to him to help
defray the expenses of his traveling companions.
-
Dan- When one apostle servant teaches
all the sessions then that worker could receive the larger portion of
funds as needed.
-
Dan- When all apostle workers
minister equally in word and doctrine then consider equally dividing funds
between them, i.e., if all workers teach two session each then the
available funds could be equally divided among them.
Give deference to the needs of
each apostle worker at the time of the dividing of funds.
Jim- When considering the
division of the funds based on “they who labor in the word and doctrine” we
need to remember that much prayer, consultation, and study of the word goes
into the team ministry. Certainly the brother who functions as “presenter”
invests more time, but in the normal course of events all team members may
spend considerable time in preparation. This is the case in the Klondike
ministry where you spent time in coordination, and we all invested time
individually and collectively in preparation.
-
Dan- Maintain a common bag/purse of
limited funds for the needs of traveling apostle servants, i.e. food,
lodging, gasoline, etc.
Jim- On administering the
common purse, unless a brother chooses not to receive it, all the travel
expenses of the workers should be met out of the common purse if available.
Art- Possibly, any funds not
needed at the moment by team members should go into the common purse for
future expenses.
