CHURCH & LEADERS’ DECISION MAKING

According to the Book of Acts:

1.      Acts 1:15-26 “Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren…wherefore of these men…must one be ordained to be a witness with us of His resurrection.  And they appointed two, Joseph, called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.  And they prayed…And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”

2.      Acts 4:23-31 “They reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.  And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord…Grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, by stretching forth Thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Jesus…”

3.      Acts  6:1-7 “And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring (neglect of widows)…Then the twelve called the multitude of disciples unto them…look ye out among you seven men…whom we may appoint over this business (need)…And the saying pleased the whole multitude; and they chose…whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them…And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly…”

4.      Acts 11:1-18 “And the apostles and brethren that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.  And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him…When they heard these thins, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”

5.      Acts 12:4-5 “And when Herod had apprehended Peter, he put him in prison…But prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for Peter.”

6.      Acts 13:1-4 “Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers…As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.  And when that had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.  So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost…”

7.      Acts 15:4-31 “And when they (Paul & Barnabas) were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles, and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.  But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees…And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.  And when there had been much disputing…Peter said…Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul…And after that James…my sentence is…Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church to send chosen men…The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren…They came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle: Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

8.      Acts 21:8-15 “We that were with Paul’s company (Acts 20:4 “Sopater, Aristarchus, Secundus, Gaius, Timotheus, Tychicus, Throphimus & Luke the writer of the Acts account) departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him (four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy).  And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus…Thus saith the Holy Ghost…And when we heard these things, both we (Acts 20:4 “Paul’s company) and they of that place (Caesarea), besought him not to go up to Jerusalem…Then Paul answered…And when Paul would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done…We (Acts 20:4 & certain disciples of Caesarea and Mnason of Cyprus) took up our carriages and went up to Jerusalem.”
