INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE

PROPHETIC MINISTRY

I.                    MINISTRY TO INDIVIDUALS

A.                Individual Believers

1.                  Much of the prophetic ministry is outside of the corporate gathering of the ekklesia to individual believers who need to be encouraged to hear the Lord and to know what the Lord is saying through them, i.e Jesus’ & Paul’s prophetic ministries.

B.                 Individual Non-believers

1.                  Much of the prophetic ministry is outside of the corporate gathering of the ekklesia to individuals who are non-believers, i.e., Jesus’ & Paul’s prophetic ministries.

II.                 MINISTRY TO CORPORATE BODY

A.                Testing of Prophet and Prophecy

1.                  Prophet

a.                   Foretelling

Old Testament Principles

·        Deuteronomy  18:22 “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it resumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”

·        Jeremiah 22:25-40 “I have hears what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.  How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies?  Yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.  The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully.  What is the chaff to the wheat? Saith the Lord.  Is not my word like as a fire? Saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?  Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbor.  Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.  Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people do err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.”

2.                  New Testament Principles

·        I Corinthians 13:9 “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.”

·        I Corinthian 14:29 “Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.  If anything be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.  For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.  And the spirits(pneuma) of the prophets are subject(hupotasso=to set in array under) to the prophets.”

·        I John 4:1 “Try(dokimazo=try, prove) the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

B.                 Forth-telling

1.                  New Testament Principles

a.                   The source of forth-telling is in the Word and principle of Scripture.  II Timothy 3:16All scripture(graphe=writing) is given by inspiration of God(theopneustostheos; theos pneuma =God breathed), and is profitable(ephelimos=profitable)for doctrine(didaskalia=the substance), for reproof(elegchos= convicttion), for correction epanorthosis=a setting aright), for instruction(paideia=nurture) in righteousness(dikaiosune= rightness):”

b.                  II Peter 1:20-21 “”No prophecy(propheteia=public exposition) of scripture(graphe=writing) is of any private(idios=one’s own)interpretation(epilusis=unloosing).  For the prophecy (propheteia=public exposition) came not in old time(pote= once, at some time or other) by the will of man(thelema anthrospos=will or wish): but holy(hagios=separate, set apart) men(anthropos=man) of God(theos), spake(laleo=to talk, speak, tell as they were moved(phero=to bear, carry) by the Holy Ghost(hagios=set apart, separate; pnuema=Spirit).”
