FATHERS TURNING THEIR HEARTS
TOWARD THE CHILDREN

Introduction

In the Old Testament, the parents and grandparents laid hands on their children and grandchildren and blessed them!

1.      Deuteronomy 4:9 “Take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach(yada=to cause to know )them(statutes = chuqqah:decreed limit, portion) and judgements(mishpat=righteous decisions)to thy sons, and thy sons’ sons(grandchildren);”

2.      Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These words shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently(meod=might) unto thy children, and shall talk of(debar=speak) them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

3.      Deuteronomy 6:8-9Bind them(words)for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.  Thou shalt write them(words)upon the posts of thy house, and on they gates.”

4.      Psalm 11:21You can be very sure that God will rescue the children of the godly.”

5.      Psalms 78:3-5 “(Words)which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide(kachad=to cut off)them(God’s words)from their children: shewing(raah=to cause to see)to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength, and his wonderful works that He hath done.”

6.      Psalms 127:3f “Lo, children are an heritage(nachalah=inheritance)of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward(sakar=reward, gift).”

7.      Proverbs 22:6Train up(chanak=dedicate, give instruction to) a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart(sur=turn aside)from it.”

8.      Proverbs 13:24: “He that spareth(chamal=to have pity, mild, meek) the rod(shebet=rod)hateth(sane=hate)his son: but he that loveth(aheb=love) chasteneth(musar=instruct) him betimes (shackar =to be with the dawn).”

9.      Isaiah 44:3I will pour out my Spirit and my blessings on your children.”

10.  Isaiah 59:21My Spirit and my words that I give you will never leave you or your children or your grandchildren, now and forever.”

11.  Jeremiah 31:16-17 “Do not weep any longer, for I will reward you.  Your children will come back to you from the distant land of the enemy.  There is hope for your future says the Lord.”

12.  Malachi 4:5-6 “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn(shub=to turn back) the heart(leb=seat of one’s being) of the fathers to the children, and the heart(leb of the children to their fathers, let I come and smite the earth with a curse.

13.  Luke 1:17 “And he(John)shall go before him(Jesus)in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn(epistrepho=to turn upon, unto)the hearts(kardia=seat of one’s Being) of the fathers to the children.”

14.  Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, provoke not(parorgizo=to irritate beyond measure)your children to wrath(parorigizo=to anger beyond measure): but bring them up(ektrepho=to nourish fully)in the nurture(paideia=instruction, chasenting) and admonition(nouthesia=a putting into the mind)of the Lord.”

15.  Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey(hupakouo=to hearken submissively)your parents in the Lord: for this is right(dikaios=just). Honor(timao=to make heavy) your father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise (epaggelia=a promise); that it may be well(eu=happily, rightly, welldone) with thee, and thou mayest live long(makrochronios=long timed)on the earth.”

16.  Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey(hupakouo=to hearken submissively)your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing(euarestos=well pleasing)unto the Lord.”

CONCLUSION

Joshua 24:15 Choose(bachar=to choose after testing)ye this day whom ye will serve(abad=to serve).  But as for me and my house we will serve(abad=to serve)the Lord.”
