BIBLICAL ROLE OF CHILDREN

 

CHILDREN

 

I.                    Children are known before birth(See Detailed Study on Womb)

A.                Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee…”

B.                 Job 31:15 “Did not He that made me in the womb make him?  And did not one fashion us in the womb?”

C.                Isaiah 44:2 “Thus said the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb…”

D.                Psalms 22:10 “Thou art my God from my mother’s belly.”

 

II.                 Children are an heritage of the Lord and fruit of the womb

A.                Psalm 127:3 “Children are an heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His reward.”

B.                 Children are to know the Scripture

C.                II Timothy 3:15 “That from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures.”

D.                Proverbs 5:7 “Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.”

E.                 Proverbs 8:32 “Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.”

 

III.               Children are to have faith

A.                II Timothy 1:5 “Unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that is in thee  also.”

 

IV.              Children are to obey their parents

A.                Ephesians 6:1 “Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”

B.                 Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.”

 

V.                 Children are to listen to their parents

A.                Proverbs 4:1 “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father and attend to know understanding.”

 

VI.              Children are to be subject to their parents

A.                Luke 2:51 “And Jesus went down with his parents, and came to Nazareth, and  was subject unto them.”

 

VII.            Children are to honour their parents

A.                Ephesians 6:1 “Honour thy father and mother.”

 

VIII.         Children are promised long life

A.                Ephesians 6:2-3 “Honour thy father and mother which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with thee and thou mayest live long on the earth.”

 

IX.              Children are to grow in the favour of God and man

A.                Luke 2:40 “And the child(Jesus)grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.”

B.                 Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

C.                I Samuel 2:21 ”The child Samuel grew before the Lord.”

D.                I Samuel 2:26 “The child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord and also with men.”

 

X.                 Children are to minister to the Lord

A.                I Samuel 2:11 “And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli the priest.”

B.                 I Samuel 2:18 “But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.”

C.                I Samuel 3:1 “And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.”

 

XI.              Children are known by what they do

A.                Proverbs 20:11 “A child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.”

 

XII.            Children shall lead others

A.                Isaiah 11:6 “And a little child shall lead them.”

 

XIII.         Children are to glory in their fathers

A.                Proverbs 17:6 “The glory of children are their fathers.”

 

XIV.         Children are to call their mothers blessed

A.                Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up and call her blessed.”

 

XV.           Children are to support their parents

A.                I Timothy 5:4 “Children support parents in need.”

 

XVI.         Jesus’ ministry to Children

A.                Mark 10:14-16

B.                 “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”

C.                “Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a a little child, he shall not enter therein.”

D.                “And Jesus took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and bless  them.
